The purpose of the Mountain Grove Central Arts Council is sponsorship and encouragement of cultural activities in the greater community of Mountain Grove, Missouri. The council may sponsor cooperative planning, research, fundraising, and public education programs, administer property, undertake such other services and programs deemed necessary by the Council to encourage participation in and appreciation of the arts by all residents of the area, and to engage in any other lawful business for which non-profit corporations may be organized in the state.
Mission Statement: The Mountain Grove Central Arts Council will work together to promote cultural and aesthetic events and opportunities for the Mountain Grove community and the surrounding area.
History of the Arts Council: From the first meeting on July 24, 2003, to its incorporation as a Missouri nonprofit organization in December, 2004, to the present, the Mountain Grove Central Arts Council strives to follow its mission statement. The 1938 Rock Jail at 301 East First Street is the current building, leased from the city by the organization and is used for art shows and historic displays, as well as monthly meetings. It is currently called the History and Arts Center, but in the past it has been a jail, City Hall, and juvenile detention center.
